Name: Gemashy
Start year: 2023

What is Gemashy?
Gemashy is my personal hybrid infrastructure, consisting of VPS, dedicated servers and some stuff running in my bedroom. It powers many of my stuff I host, such as this website, my Discord bots, GitLab server, and a lot more. It's been in operation since 2023 or so.
How is it built?
We start with the first zone, aka the Root zone. This zone consists of many manually-configured WireGuard-based mesh network. There is no central management, and all connections are completely peer-to-peer. This is for the critical servers, and useful for reducing the chance of a major downtime because one server died. The next zones begin at the next and final layer, which are commonly game servers, VMs hosted by hypervisors, or my home network. Traffic that go within one zone typically stay in that zone. Traffic to other zones have to leave through the gateway, which is often the router, router-VM, or central management server, travel through the root zone to either one server or one within another zone.
A critical rule for myself is not to nest the zones any further. There are only two layers, root zone and tree zone.
Which services do you use?
These are the services I use below:
| Service | Reason |
|---|---|
| ZAP-Hosting | Offers lifetime servers, so I can save some money for each month. Quite expensive to buy unlike renting, tho. |
| Skrime | Found it in surprise, and found the performance servers really useful, especially for game servers. (I commonly host Minecraft Java Servers) |
| Contabo | I used to use it in everything, now there's still a few servers, as I needed the storage VPS for my personal cloud storage. |
Why are you building all this?
As a tech-passionate person, I've always been curious about what's happening under the hood of computers and networking. Working as an applicatino developer and seeing all the cool infrastructure around me have been big inspirations to build one of my own. Of course certain tools exist and can already make certain stuff easier, but, to be fair, it is fun to see how things work at a low level.
